Forensic Audit: 4 Glitches Found
1. The Echo Chamber (Double Counting)
The firm configured tracking on both the "Submit Button" click AND the "Thank You Page" load.
When a user filled out a form:
↳ Tracker A Fires (+1 Conversion)
↳ Redirect to Thank You Page
↳ Tracker B Fires (+1 Conversion)
Result: 1 Lead = 2 Conversions
2. Plugin Warfare
The site had 3 different "Call Tracking" plugins installed. Instead of capturing data, they were overwriting each other's cookies. This created "Data Gaps" where some real leads weren't tracked at all, while others were counted triple.
3. The "Mixed Bag" Strategy
Keywords for "Divorce" (Family Law) were mixed with "DUI Defense" (Criminal). Because of the Double Counting, Family Law keywords looked profitable falsely, causing the manager to increase the Criminal Defense budget by mistake.
4. The "One-Click" Rule
Google allows counting "One Conversion per Click" (for leads) or "Every Conversion" (for e-commerce sales). They were set to "Every." If a confused user clicked "Submit" 5 times, Google counted 5 new clients.
The Cleanup
We rebuilt the tracking infrastructure. We removed conflicting plugins, installed a clean global site tag (gtag.js), and set the counting method to "One Per Person."
Is Your Dashboard Lying to You?
"Double Counting" is the silent budget killer. If you see high conversion numbers but your phone isn't ringing, your tracking is broken.
